Flower Mound's Future is On the Line!

As many of you know, the upcoming local elections are just around the corner. This election cycle includes the Mayor's seat, and places 2 and 4. If you have not registered you can go to the Texas Secretary of State’s website at this link: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqvr.shtml or you can click on the link of Gerald Robinson and they will get a registration card to you.

Mayor Jody Smith is running for re-election. Mayor Smith was first elected mayor in 2004. She has been instrumental in projects like the Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound currently under construction. She has also been a strong conservative voice at Town Hall by holding the line on no tax increases, balancing the budgets, and keeping high quality services to the residence of Flower Mound. While she has been in office, hundreds of millions of dollars in investment dollars have poured into Flower Mound at a time when the country has been experiencing one of the worst economies of all time. I strongly support her bid for re-election.

Running for Place 2 is Gerald Robinson. He is the former Chairman of the Flower Mound Environmental Conservation Commission and his many years of local government service make him the “GREEN” choice for Place 2. His years as a Certified Financial Planner, coupled with his chairmanships in local government, make him highly qualified to be the Place 2 Councilmember.

Running for Place 4 is Bryan Webb who is serving on Flower Mound's Planning and Zoning Commission. Bryan has 15 years of service in local government. Has worked for the same company for 19 years and manages their Credit Risk Management Department. Based on experience and responsibility, Bryan is the most qualified candidate running for Place 4.

The direction Flower Mound takes is dependent upon the outcome of this election. You can do something about it and vote for conservatives Mayor Smith, Bryan Webb, and Gerald Robinson, and defeat the "Liberals", Northern, Lyda, and "Liberal Leaning" Filidoro.

We need citizen volunteers to walk neighborhoods, post signs, and other jobs that are going to be required to defeat Filidoro,Lyda, and "Northern's" "Liberal machine".  So please, click on the links to the candidate’s websites, and email them and let them know you are willing to help.

Seems like you live in a shell with a negative mindset. Learn to accept realities. Step out and meet the average resident across Flower Mound (instead of the gas companies) and see how angry they are with CCF & gas drilling near residence & schools. Just try to utter the name of Jody Smith, Lavenick and Wallace and see the reaction.
You are the one causing division and calling for conservatives/ liberals. I tell you this election is beyond the politics of conservatives/ liberals. You are the one that caused division by unilaterally siding with the gas companies. Your greed has taken this Town down. Don't you have enough money for the rest of your life ? Why are you causing this misery at the health and cost to others ?

Actually, on our side of town, the names Filidoro and Hayden are held with contempt for their single-minded efforts to deny property rights to the residents. We admire Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Levenick and Mr. Wallace for acting in the best interest of the entire town - not the mob.

"Why are you causing this misery at the health and cost to others?"

Speaking for myself, I do not believe we are causing any health problems. But I'm a reasonable person who can be swayed by logic, so please, illuminate this blog with the brilliance of your argument, citing real evidence, that gas drilling has caused any illnesses whatsoever in Flower Mound. Anything?

Well said! I think that the experience both in the civic and private sector speak volumes for the candidates you are supporting!

Chris,
Liberals . . . liberal machine. Shame on you - you know this is a non-partisan race. None of the candidates are running under a political party. Before you start throwing out labels you may want to ask your candidates what their political leanings are.

I'm a democrat. I belong to the local democrat club. I've never seen Northern, Filidoro or Lyda at any of our events but your boy, Webb, has participated.

Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

This is a non-partisan election. Their political leanings shouldn't matter, but for your information NFL all have conservative views on spending and taxes - the partisan issues relevant in a local election. Your effort to paint them differently because your candidates are on the wrong side of the gas issue is desperate.

As I mentioned, I'm a democrat, far as I know Webb is the only democrat in the race, but he does not have my vote. I will be voting based on the issues not a partisan label that has no relevance to this non-partisan election.

I'd like to learn more about how Mr. Robinson is the "Green" candidate for this election.

I noticed on his web page that he supports "strong" O&G ordinances but I'm not sure what that means. I would also like to better understand how he plans to make Flower Mound become more "environmentally responsible" per his website.

Also, according to Mr. Webb's platform he is planning to "challenge[O&G]industry to find better, less intrusive ways to conduct their operations. As new technologies and methods become available, proven and viable".

This suggests that he is not satisfied with the current operations and that we should towards more responsible drilling practices based on current technology & practices... I'd like to learn more about this as well.

Mr. Webb & Mr. Robinson, when can we expect to hear more about the above?

I'm STILL waiting for FM Cares to put their petition on their web site for all the world to see. Hey TRob, why don't you let your buddies know that they forgot to post the petition to the web site? What a silly oversight on their part!

TRob said...

The world has been able to see it.

All you had to do is go to one of the many signing locations and read it as Chris did a while back.

I'm guessing that the petition group has their reasons for being guarded and not post it online.

My assumption is that has something to do with the "blocking" tactics employed by some who are against the moratorium. From LISD retracting the permission to use parking lots the first weekend to the barrage of calls complaining to the local businesses who've stuck their necks out to try to help the group and intimidation tactics from non-supporters and the city.

I'm just speculating though.

Well I certainly hope that FM Cares lack of transparency does not come back to haunt them.

I can't imagine how a 180 day Moratorium would hurt the town.

Tighter O&G ordinances leading to more responsible practices can only benefit the entire community in my opinion.

TRob...if you want information on the candidates all you need to do is contact them via their websites. Both sites have a "contact" form that can be used for questions, but you don't really want the answers do you? I guess we will see if you actually contact them, i'm sure you will tell us.

TRob said...

Good suggestion Anonymous poster [despite the sarcasm]. I will contact them thru their websites to better understand their platforms.

And YES -- I do want them to answer the questions as their websites/platforms do not provide any detail on how the plan to deliver on those promises.

I'd prefer for them to do so publicly --- in the spirit of "transparency" --- but happy to do so via email if necessary.

I will report back with what I learn.

TRob said...

Per the suggestion. I sent Mr. Webb and Mr. Robinson emails -- looking forward to their responses.

TRob, "in the spirit of transparency", are you kidding me?
The F-M petition group has been nothing but closed doors, and secrets. They have never published the petition in a format that would allow all Flower Mound citizens the chance to read it on their own time. No, the group requires the people to come to their signing locations so that the F-M petition people can "Tell" them what it says. There is no transparency anywhere in that group.

What is so secret, and done behind closed doors, that you don't want the public atlarge to be able to read this on their own? I went to a location to read the petition, and without the proper reference ordinances, you would have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to understand the petition.

Shame on you for not making that information public.

TRob said...

As I've stated before the petition group has their reasons for being guarded. Something you can take up directly with them.

I don't believe, however, there are any hidden agendas or conspiracies as your posts infers.

Speaking of transparency... feel free to use your real name when you reply to my posts on the Shilo blog. I won't bite, I promise.

Also notice that the Flower Mound Cares facebook page is wide open. No secret posts there, no pre-approval required to post or to join the group. And while our perspectives might be directly opposed, we've made every effort to encourage an open and respectful discussion on the page.

Chris T said...

TRob, I don't care what the resons are for them not post their petition. It should be done, if it is going to have a public hearing.

And as for the FaceBook page, you are right, it is an open forum for the most part. However; not only myself, but other have been threatened to be thrown out if they don't play nice to Ladd.

That in effect is a form of sensorship, and as you know here, I post everything, including the insults to me personaly.

TRob, thank you very much. You know my intentions are never to insult, or be rude to you or any of the other members. I just try and present a different view.

And yes, Ladd is a big boy, and because someone is in a debate with him, he shouldn't use the scare tactic that he will have that person removed from the group.

Ladd told Doug Graves yesterday that if doesn't "toe the line" and stop questioning him (ladd) "trust me you will no longer be welcome to comment on this page"..if you want my opinion, Ladd has had his 15 minutes of fame and he needs to come back to planet earth...the world doesn't revolve around you buddy!

I really find it funny that you are calling Northern & Lyda liberal and Filidoro liberal leaning. Have you every looked up the definition??? Well here it is...
lib·er·al  (lbr-l, lbrl)
adj.
1.
a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
and oh by the way - here is a definition of conservative... con·ser·va·tive  (kn-sûrv-tv)
adj.
1. Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.

I would much rather be called a liberal than a conservative!!!!!

Chris T said...

Love your definitions, if you are so proud to be a liberal then why don't you be a man or woman, and own up to it and use your real name? I am a proud conservative and I want the world to know it. I am not ashamed of the position I take. You should not be either, own it, come on out and tell the world what a proud liberal you are.

Anonymous said...

Chris, let's be fair to our liberal friend, they may not have enough real world experience to know better. Remember what Churchill said: "If you are under 30 and you're not a liberal you don't have a heart, and if you're over 30 and you're not a conservative you don't have a brain." Let's just assume they are young and brainless.

I'm posting this anonymously because I don't want to be a target for your hate comments.

What a joke you Shilo people are... sounds like the frack fumes are really affecting your brain function.

You guys are a bunch of moron's with all your enlightened bull-crap. No wonder our town is in such turmoil... your arrogance and sense of entitlement is sickening.

BTW... don't bother responding, I really don't care what you have to say nor do I plan to read any more of the trash on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I think we have just seen the very pinnacle of reasoned argument from the anti-drillers: "You guys are a bunch of moron's (yes, that's how they spelled morons while calling us morons)with all your enlightened bullcrap."

Seriously, have you people no worthy champion to advocate your cause? No man or woman of letters with knowledge of economics and the law? The banal name calling and emotional rants are getting tiresome.

Don't buy into the "Team N.F.L." nonsense...

These people are wolves in sheeps clothing, attempting to play on the emotions of otherwise conservative voters!!!!
